Talk about a pleasant surprise. After going two years without releasing any new music, the Foo Fighters dropped a new single last week which featured a hilarious music video of the band acting as senior citizens in a retirement home.
From the music video to the song itself, "Run" is the embodiment of the classic Foo Fighters sound. With a beautiful sounding guitar intro to drummer Taylor Hawkins's thrash drumming throughout, there's no element that sounds out of place here. The lyrics seem to represent political themes as well, with the instrument sounding like something off of their 2011 album Wasting Light. And of course, Foo Fighters have to add their sense of comical humor to the video. Minus them acting as elder men starting a mosh pit in a retirement home, there are certain aspects that make me laugh so hard my lungs hurt. Take a look for yourself down below.
Overall, if "Run" is the poster child of their upcoming album, expect the Foos to get more political and heavier in an age where mainstream rock is more watered down than ever. It's much needed too. To be honest I prefer when the Foo Fighters produce a heavier sound. Sonic Highways didn't hit in the sense of it actually being Foo Fighters material. Then again, it was about each song being made in a different region of the country. But after the Saint Cecilia EP and this single, I'm having high hopes that Dave Grohl and crew can produce another quality album.
